Coconut Blossom Sugar

Our Coconut Blossom Sugar is a sugar produced from the sap of cut flower buds of the coconut palm. Coconut sugar has been used as a traditional sweetener for thousands of years in the South and South-East Asian regions where the coconut palm is in abundant supply.

Our Coconut Blossom Sugar is unrefined, organically grown and sustainably farmed on the island of Java, Indonesia. Harvested using traditional methods, it retains the nutrients naturally found in the nectar of the coconut blossom, and has a unique depth of flavour with subtle caramel and butterscotch. Discover the exquisite taste and versatility of this traditional Indonesian sugar.

Perfect for:

  • Porridge
  • Baked goods
  • Tea, coffee and cold drinks

Coconut Sugar contains inulin, a naturally occurring, indigestible carbohydrate. Inulin is considered a prebiotic because it’s fermented in the intestines and becomes food for beneficial bacteria. According to a 2016 study, fermentable carbs such as inulin may improve insulin sensitivity and have beneficial metabolic effects in people at risk for diabetes.

Nutrient Content

Coconut sugar isn't a nutritional superfood, but it does offer more vitamins and minerals than white table sugar. It contains trace amounts of vitamin C, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron and copper. Coconut sugar also provides small amounts of phytonutrients, such as polyphenols, flavonoids and anthocyanidin, and antioxidants.

The glycemic index measures the effects of carbohydrates on the blood sugar. Coconut sugar ranks just 35 on this index, while regular table sugar ranks between 60 and 75. Foods high on the glycemic index cause the blood sugar to spike, which can lead to a sugar rush and subsequent crash. Fast spikes in blood sugar can also cause insulin levels to soar in a short period of time, and this can have serious consequences for diabetics.
