Evaporated Milk, known in some countries as unsweetened condensed milk, is a shelf-stable canned milk product with about 60% of the water removed from fresh milk. It differs from our sweetened Condensed Milk, which contains added sugar.

Evaporated Milk takes up half the space of its nutritional equivalent in fresh milk. When the liquid product is mixed with a proportionate amount of water, evaporated milk becomes the rough equivalent of fresh milk. This makes evaporated milk attractive for purposes as it can have a shelf life of months or even years, depending upon the fat and sugar content. This made evaporated milk very popular before refrigeration as a safe and reliable substitute for perishable fresh milk, which could be shipped easily to locations lacking the means of safe milk production or storage.

The process of creating Evaporated Milk involves the evaporation of 60% of the water, followed by homogenisation, canning, and heat sterilisation.

Health benefits of Milk

A glass of milk contains three of the four nutrients that USDA deems under-consumed by most Americans—calcium, vitamin D and potassium.

Milk and dairy foods provide the right amount of bone-building nutrients, specifically calcium, vitamin D, protein, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, vitamin B12 and zinc.

Milk is an important component of the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet designed to reduce the risk of high blood pressure. This diet, which includes three servings a day of low-fat and fat-free milk, yogurt and cheese, and 8 to 10 servings daily of fruits and vegetables, has also been shown to reduce risk of heart disease and stroke.

There are no sugars added to our regular, light and super light evaporated milk. The sugars listed in the table to the left refer to the natural sugars (primarily lactose) found in milk.
